Burung Indonesia (formal name Perhimpunan Pelestari Burung dan Habitatnya) is the Indonesian member of BirdLife International – a global partnership of conservation organisations that strives to conserve birds, their habitats and global biodiversity. Burung Indonesia began activities in 1993 as a country program of BirdLife International, and was formally established as an independent national organisation on 15 July 2002 with a distinguished board of conservation professionals. The organisation draws strength from its wide membership base, broad public support, and through partnering with a network of local groups and institutions at project sites across Indonesia. Burung Indonesia focuses on field conservation action, using the experience gained to inform policy advocacy and promotion at the national level. The program is underpinned by comprehensive and reliable information on the conservation status of bird species and their habitats.

- Vision & Mission Burung Indonesia
Burung Indonesia’s mission is to be the guardian of Indonesia’s wild birds and their habitats, working with people for sustainable development. Its organisational objectives are to promote the conservation of sites, species and habitats by working with non-government organizations, local communities, government institutions and the broader public to:
- Provide support for improved planning and management of important sites, species and habitats
- Introduce and advocate new ideas for integrating biodiversity conservation into planning and policy, for example through collaborative management and sustainable use of natural resources
- Stimulate greater public interest in birds and biodiversity conservation
- Develop capacity for improved management of sites, species and habitats
- Provide information on biodiversity and protected areas to planners, policy-makers and other interest groups
